Valdera
and Colline Pisane, a territory in which the historical events
melt with its peculiar geography and morphology.
Peopled
since the Etruscan period, of which hides the signs and preserves
the misteries, in the Middle Ages Valdera was the protagonist
of vicissitudes that modified again and again its administrative
structure. Contested by the powerful Episcopates of Lucca
and Volterra, Valdera was the scene of the disputes between
Pisans and Florentines, interlaced with the events of eminent
noble families.
A
journey inside a territory where distances are calculated
with old measures, where the roads tell us about uneven paths,
where the hills - today designing breathtahking sights - once
represented solid boundaries. A mosaic where history, nature
and culture blend, always giving different results. A tormented
past which has left important traces: Etruscan tombs, feudal
castles, ancient churches, medieval hamlets and above all
a strong local identity.
