Peopled since the Etruscan period, of which hides the signs and preserves the misteries, in the Middle Ages Valdera was the protagonist of vicissitudes that modified again and again its administrative structure. Contested by the powerful Episcopates of Lucca and Volterra, Valdera was the scene of the disputes between Pisans and Florentines, interlaced with the events of eminent noble families.
